For its third quarter Apple said its quarterly revenue was $35 billion with a net profit of $8.8 billion. Those results compare favorably to the same quarter a year ago when revenue was $28.6 billion and net profit $7.3 billion.
Apple’s other best-selling mobile device, the iPhone, did quite well as well, with sales of 26 million units in the quarter, representing a 28% bump up from the same quarter a year ago. “We’re thrilled with record sales of 17 million iPads in the June quarter,” said Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, who will participate in a conference call with analysts later today.
“We’ve also just updated the entire MacBook line, will release Mountain Lion tomorrow and will be launching iOS 6 this Fall,' he added. "We are also really looking forward to the amazing new products we’ve got in the pipeline.”
Apple said it sold 4 million Macs during the quarter, a 2% percent unit increase over the year-ago quarter and said it sold 6.8 million iPods, a 10% unit decline from the year-ago quarter.
