Acer’s 7-inch Iconia B1-A71 Android tablet will have a starting price of “less than $150” the company said in a release.
“Some places will have a special promotion for $99 but most of the channels will have it for $129 to $149,” said Wong.
Pitched as a starter tablet or one that might appeal as a second family tablet for kids (or even a handy, albeit limited mobile companion for road warriors) the Iconia B1 features an a triangular corner grip designed to make it easier to hold with one hand. Weighing only 320 grams, it’s also one of the lightest 7-inch tablets on the market.
While it’s hardly the cutting edge of tablet technology, for the price, the B1 includes basic tablet features including a 7-inch capacitive display, front-facing camera and Google’s Android “Jelly Bean” operating system. The $130 version comes with 8GB storage with optional expansion via a microSD slot.
The company hasn't said when the new Iconia model will be available for sale. Acer already offers two other Iconia models, a 10-inch Android, an 11-inch Windows 8 and one 10-inch Windows 8 Hybrid Tablet under the Iconia brand.
