Surveying up to 5,000 of its clients for its Q1 Good Mobility Index Report, Good Technology reveals that iOS remains the most popular enterprise platform when it comes to mobile devices, accounting for 75% of device activations.
Apple’s iPhone 5 was the most popular device, followed by the iPhone 4S and latest iPad.
But these results, which bear more than a passing resemblance to other studies, also show some good news for Google’s Android too.
Good Technology found that Android device activations grew 5% year-on-year and claimed that Android tablet activations have nearly doubled in the year.
These results are not inconsiderably given research indicated that both iOS and iPad activations dropped by around 5% over the same period. That said, Apple’s iPad remains the most popular tablet (representing 88.4% of activations) and is especially hot in the life sciences sector and financial services, where it accounts for almost a third of all activations (30%).
Either way, Good Technology reckons that tablet usage in enterprise is going against the grain. The firm claims that one in four activations is now a tablet (27%), an impressive stat considering IDC believes that there is only one tablet per five smartphones on the market.
Good Technology CEO and president Christy Wyatt, who joined from Motorola in January, said that mobile adoption in enterprise continues to be driven by bring-your-own-device (BYOD). Wyatt has previously said that some IT departments have panicked when trying to manage this trend.
“With bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies now becoming the rule, rather than the exception, it’s more imperative than ever to have a cross-platform solution that can be deployed across the number of devices coming into the workplace,” said Wyatt, who is also president at Good Technology.
“And despite what device they may be using, users want a seamless, integrated experience that allows them to be as productive on the go.”
