Good Technology’s Q2 Mobility Index report shows Android apps capturing 12% of total activations, taking 4% from iOS which still dominates at 88%.
Android also increased on the device side with device activations for the quarter growing 5% to 32% of total device activations (primarily smartphones and tablets) with iOS picking just about all the rest (Windows Phone activations captured 1% of total device activations).
iPad activations did pick up in government and public sector organizations which saw a 5% percent increase in total iPad activations.
In past reports Good reported a wide gap in the number of tablet activations (more) than smartphone activations (less). In Q2, the gap shrunk some – the total number of app applications favored tablets at 58% versus smartphones app activations at 42%.
Enterprise mobile apps on the rise
Good says its latest figures show “significant growth” in the number of secure instant messaging (IM), customer relationship management (CRM) and business intelligence (BI) apps activated by its enterprise customers.
“It’s more apparent than ever that enterprise mobility is disrupting legacy desktop environments,” Good CEO Christy Wyatt said in a statement. “They’ve recognized that mobile access to other key apps beyond email is critical in driving higher productivity, intelligence and even closing deals.”
