App analytics and app market data consolidate: App Annie buys competitor Distimo, raises $17M

App Annie simultaneously announced the investment round and Distimo’s acquisition today.

With an unusually friendly face for an analytics company, App Annie had grown into a strong player in app analytics and app market data. It claims that 90 of the top 100 app publishers by revenue are customers.

Today’s announcement rounds up App Annie’s offering by adding Distimo’s analytics services into the mix, as well as integrating its management and tech teams.

A portion of the $19M investment round went to Distimo shareholders but they also took equity in App Annie. This was a second funding round for App Annie, bringing the total of external investment to $39 million.

Distimo’s Netherlands headquarters will now become App Annie’ European R&D center.

“This acquisition will allow us to accelerate the development and launch of new features, platforms and products that will allow [customers] to deepen the analysis of [their] apps and the app marketplace”, wrote App Annie CEO Bertrand Schmitt in a blog post.
