Apple and Samsung are putting the finishing touches to giant new tablets

November 5, 2013

In the past, the likes of Wall Street Journal and others have claimed that both Apple and Samsung are working on 12-inch and 13-inch tablets with a view to bringing them to market in 2014, and that speculation has now ramped up a notch following the latest news on the grapevine.

Citing unidentified sources, Chinese media report that Apple may already be testing the much-rumored 12.9-inch iPad with partner Foxconn, although this is not in itself an unusual practise. After all, Apple regularly tests numerous different display sizes and doesn’t bring of all them to market.

At the same time, Samsung is evidently gearing up to launch a big tablet of its own. Just one day after the supposed 12.2-inch Galaxy Note flew through FCC, Korean news website ET News reports that Samsung is working on a 13.3-inch tablet too.

This could well be the long-awaited, dual-booting Ativ Q, which was announced earlier this year but which has so far failed to make it to mass production (some reporters claim it has been cancelled). We'll likely find out more on both forthcoming devices when International CES swings round in January so stay tuned for more details.
