Citing sources from the “upstream supply chain”, Taiwanese news website Digitimes – which has a spotty record when it comes to predicting Apple product announcements – claims that the firm has contracted Quanta Computer to mass produce the tablet in the second half of 2014. This would certainly tie-in with other recent rumors of the device launching later next year.

The tablet is expected to target the education and enterprise markets where the iPad and iPad mini have been so successful to date, but may encounter a few problems in the manufacturing process.

Supply chain sources say that there will be “several challenges in terms of industrial design and assembly” and expects Apple to limit order volumes at first.
