Technology blog iMore uncovered the news about the iPad 3 launch date and said that the 'special event' will be held somewhere in San Francisco. The blog also reaffirmed the most likely features of the device; a high-resolution 2048 x 1536 screen, a faster A6 processor and a higher quality camera. Indeed, the high-resolution screen would seemingly look like a sure bet now, with China Times reporting that Apple has ordered 65 million of the displays from LG Display and Samsung Electronics.
Meanwhile, new rumors of the possible introduction of a smaller iPad have surfaced. According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple has shown a new device with the smaller 8-inch screen to suppliers, with the Cupertino giant now apparently looking to sign up suppliers for the tablet.
Sources say that the new tablet will have a similar resolution display to that of the iPad 2, and add that Apple is talking with LCD manufacturers AU Optronics and LG Display to supply the new panels. It is thought that the test is in its early stages however, meaning that Apple could well decide abort the project at any given time.
With Apple due to launch the iPad 3 early next month, there has been a spate of rumors on Apple’s tablet plans, ranging from the plausible to the very unlikely. The first rumor about a 7-inch iPad appeared a few months ago, but today’s news comes from a far more reliable source.
