Retailers lop up to 30% off the price of the iPad and iPad mini

April 4, 2013

Best Buy has approximately 30% off the third-generation iPad, a discount which leaves the 16GB third-generation iPad at $314.99 and the 32GB model at $384.99. Both devices would typically sell for $449.99 and $699.99.

The retailer is also offering discounts on iPads with cellular connectivity, while Walmart and MacMall both have smaller discounts on the iPad mini, which usually starts at $329.

The move would seem to indicate that Apple is not only moving to a six-month product release schedule, but that the second-generation iPad mini and fifth-generation iPad may come to market in the near future.

Indeed, Digitimes last week reported that Apple has been scaling down shipments of the original iPad mini, while a recent web discussion between the senior editors of Engadget, iMore, TechCrunch and The Next Web suggested that Apple could hold an iPad launch event later this month.

Previous reports have claimed that the iPad mini 2 will have a 2048 x 1536 resolution Retina Display, a faster A6X processor and an improved rear-facing camera.

The next 9.7-inch iPad is supposed to be 4mm shorter, 17mm narrower and 2mm thinner, a move which could well make the tablet look more like an iPad mini.
