While reports earlier this year pointed to a new iPad Mini sporting a high res Retina Display, more recent reports say Apple is having trouble getting the parts it would need to launch such a device this year and may aim for a more modest Mini upgrade.
But KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says he doesn’t expect a new iPad Mini at all in 2013. Instead, Apple will release a redesigned, standard 9.7-inch iPad .
In a report obtained by Apple Insider, Kuo said Apple is unlikely to debut a Retina display version of the 7.9-inch iPad Mini this year due to higher energy demands attached to the Retina panel, as well as the components required to improve power efficiency in such a small form factor. Instead, he expects Apple will aim to launch the new iPad Mini in March or April of 2014.
