Update: Barnes & Noble to make Microsoft’s Windows 8 tablet?

June 18, 2012

News first broke on a Microsoft-branded Windows 8 tablet late last week, but new information claims that the tablet will be made by Barnes & Noble and will feature Xbox Live streaming capabilities, hinting that this device will primarily be geared up for entertainment purposes.

Hollywood news source The Wrap said last week that the Windows RT tablet will be made by Microsoft itself, but TechCrunch disputes this, and claims – via sources – that Barnes & Noble will make the tablet, presumably as part of its recent deal with Microsoft.

The Redmond software giant invested $300 million in the Nook division at the end of April, a deal which is also expected to see Windows 8 tablets come pre-loaded with Nook’s digital bookstore.

Microsoft’s tablet announcement takes place in Los Angeles at 3.30 p.m. PT today (Monday) and you can follow all the news here at TabTimes.

Update: Dow Jones reports that Barnes & Noble will not be participating in Microsoft's LA event later today.
