It is common knowledge that the best consoles are computers, but it is also known laptops specialized for gaming can get pricey. It is 2016 and things are changing. There are now plenty of great laptop options for casual gamers, even for those on a budget under $500! Remember not long ago you couldn’t even get a decent computer for that much money. Now you can own a machine good enough to handle a handful of quality games!

Of course, you can’t expect a super machine for $500 or less, but we have curated a list of laptops that will do great given the low price. You will have to make some sacrifices. Forget about running games at high settings, and don’t expect the framerates to reach high levels. The key is to keep your expectations reasonable.

Shall we get started?

ASUS Black NB X555DA-WS11 – $449

ASUS is known for quality laptops, as well as offering some of the best bang for your buck. This ASUS Black NB X555DA-WS11 is not the exception with fair specs and good performance. It is the lowest priced laptop in this list, too!

  • Windows 10
  • 15.6-inch (1920×1080) display
  • 1.8 GHz quad-core AMD A10-8700P processor
  • 8 GB of DDR3 RAM
  • 1 TB HDD (5400 rpm)
  • Integrated graphics
  • 15 x 1 x 10.1 inches, 6.9 pounds

8 GB of RAM and an AMD A10 processor for $449? We say this is great for the price. And this screen has a good 1080p resolution affordable laptops very rarely feature.

You can’t talk about computers without at least mentioning Dell. The company has built a reputation that will always precede them, and it is computers like this one that really make the brand shine. Just take a look at what this unit offers!

  • Windows 10
  • 15.6-inch (1366×768) display
  • 1.8 GHz quad-core AMD A10-8700P processor
  • 12 GB of DDR3 RAM
  • 1 TB HDD (5400 rpm)
  • Integrated graphics
  • 10.2 x 14.9 x 0.9 inches, 5.1 pounds

Liking those 12 GB of RAM, huh? We are too. That’s the most amount of RAM you will get off any of these devices, after all! And the computer is pretty good looking, even if a little on the large side.

HP is another one of those brands which have found a good balance between quality and affordability. And if you happen to like Intel processors, this machine will probably catch your eye!

  • Windows 10
  • 15.6-inch (1920×1080) display
  • 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 6200U processor
  • 8 GB of DDR3L RAM
  • 1 TB HDD (5400 rpm)
  • Integrated graphics
  • 10.02 x 15.12 x 0.95 inches, 4.7 pounds

It’s no Intel Core i7, but I have used the i5 for gaming plenty of times. It will do pretty well with the right settings, and most tasks are a breeze.

Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG – $499.99

This is by far my favorite option in the list, and the sole reason is that the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG has dedicated graphics. This bad boy comes with an NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU with 2GB DDR5 VRAM. This alone will make your gaming experience much better, and the laptop is not expensive at all.

  • Windows 10
  • 15.6-inch (1920×1080) display
  • 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 6200U processor
  • 8 GB of DDR3L RAM
  • 256 GB SSD
  • 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU
  • 15.02 x 10.2 x 1.19 inches, 5.3 pounds

The specs are pretty good. Sure, it lacks the i7 too, but many of you would agree that the NVIDIA GPU more than makes up for that.

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 (refurbished) – $434.95

microsoft-surface-pro-2

We know this post focuses on laptops, but computers and tablets are merging with the introduction of Windows 10 to mobile devices. Microsoft’s Surface machines have become true laptop replacements. They also happen to be thinner, more portable and often just as powerful as a full-featured computers. We just couldn’t pass this deal up.

It is also a refurbished version, but you do get a 90-day warranty in case anything goes wrong. And you will find the specs inside this bad boy!

  • Windows 8.1 Pro
  • 10.6-inch (1920×1080) display
  • Intel Core i5-4200U processor
  • 8 GB of RAM
  • 256 GB SSD
  • Integrated graphics
  • 10.81 x 6.81 x 0.53 inches, 2 pounds

Those are some great specs for the price. The real upgrade comes from the included solid state drive. Sure, you are not getting a whole TB, but 256 GB is a good amount of storage for many, and an SSD will make your machine insanely faster than one with an HDD.
