In a recent study, research firm Chitika Insights found that Samsung devices account for a substantial 47.2% of Android web traffic distribution in North America.
Following way in the distance was HTC was 9.7%, Motorola with 9.5%, Amazon with 8.8% (the Kindle Fire grabs the second-highest tablet web traffic in the region) and LG with 8.3%. Google’s collection of Nexus smartphones and tablets lagged someway behind with just 2.5% of the total.
Chitika put Samsung’s success down in part to its substantial marketing budget but highlighted that some of the firm’s lesser known products also attracted usage, with 25% of Samsung-based web traffic coming from models like the Samsung Galaxy Ace.
The Galaxy S3 was the most popular Samsung phone for browsing (32%), while the firm's Galaxy tablets accounted for 11% of Samsung Android web traffic.
