Las Vegas – There have been rumors for months that both Apple and Samsung are planning to bring out bigger screen tablets designed for business users. In at least Samsung’s case, the rumors have proved true.
Why a big screen tablet?
“What we always hear is that people want to do more with their tablets,” said one Samsung executive. “This new Pro series helps people accomplish more … it’s a premium experience for both work and play.”
In addition to the bigger screen, Samsung is packing both the 8- and 12-inch models with an array of software and services including a free 12-month subscription to BusinessWeek. free 50GB of Dropbox storage for 2 years, and 6-months free unlimited meetings using WebEx as well as several other limited time offers for Bitcasa, Evernote and other services.
The tablets are powered by a 1.9 GHz quad-core processor, 3GB RAM, 32- or 64GB memory with a microSD slot for up to 64GB of additional storage. The high end WQXGA resolution (2560 x 1600) display should be well-suited to the device’s MultiWindow capability that lets you run four different windows on the device, letting you, for example, display and switch between both personal and productivity apps without leaving the screen.

The MultiWindow (and for that matter the multi-user feature of Android 4.4) distinguish Samsung’s tablets quite a bit from the iPad as well as the company’s S-Pen for drawing and input.
Samsung maintains the 12.2-inch screen is much better suited for virtual typing directly on the display because there is enough room for a full-size onscreen keyboard.
Samsung did not release pricing, but said the new Pro series tablets would be available globally starting this quarter.
