Microsoft's media event starting at 3:30 p.m. PST is being held at Milk Studios in Hollywood, according to follow up instructions sent by Microsoft to those invited.
Milk, a media company with offices in New York and Los Angeles, “stands at the crossroads of the fashion, music, photography and film worlds …. and is a hub for nurturing creativity and supporting partnerships with some of the industry’s most visionary talent and innovative brands,” according to firm’s website.
But it’s not known if Milk has anything directly to do with Microsoft’s product announcement or is simply the venue for the event.
The latest rumors making the rounds today is that Microsoft will unveil a media and entertainment tablet designed to compete with Apple's iPad and Amazon's Kindle Fire. The new device might also carry the XBox brand name and connect with the XBox Live game service.
The only thing Microsoft has conveyed officially, including in an email to TabTimes, is that today will be “a major Microsoft event not to miss.”
There’s also been speculation that Microsoft might not show a new tablet at all, but make a big acquisition announcement of either phone maker Nokia or enterprise social network company Yammer.
But the Hollywood location of the event makes a business-oriented rollout there seem unlikely. TabTimes will have full coverage of Microsoft’s announcement starting later today.
