D-Link says that the 802.11ac standard will offer easier set-up, faster speeds, greater WiFi coverage as well as backwards compatibility and support for HD and 3D streaming. In terms of speed, the new standard is believed to offer a data range between 450Mbps to 1.3Gbps, which is significantly faster than 802.11n.

The new standard also uses only the 5GHz band, compared to the 5GHz and 2.4GHz for 802.11n. This allows for less interference and a cleaner connection.
