Best New iPad Apps: Make and share surveys, create photo collages & design your own font

by Doug Drinkwater

Carry out customized surveys with iSurveyThis

Marketers are probably quite glad the iPad turned up when it did. After all, standing out in the rain and trying to solicit people’s views on things is hard enough without having to relay results with pen and paper.

iSurveyThis is trying to make that problem disappear with its new iPad app for collecting and reviewing your own personalized surveys.

Available for $4.99 from the App Store, iSurveyThis enables users to create their own surveys and all with minimum fuss.

You simply have to tap the ‘+’ button in the right-hand corner of the home page, after which you'll be invited to add a title and survey description. Finally, you can create your survey questions (by multiple choice, rank or with a comment box to fill in) and instructions by using the toolbar at the bottom.

Having saved this survey, you can collect results offline, view them and share via email. This app works in portrait mode only.

Love typography? You'll love iFontMaker

iFontMaker may not be a particularly new iPad app but rather one which I happed upon earlier this week.

The app is available from the App Store for $6.99 but don’t let that price put you off – it really is an excellent, feature-rich application which is particularly useful for designers and brand marketers. The late Steve Jobs, who took quite an interest in typography, would certainly be impressed.

Jumping into the app without a second thought can be quite daunting as there are a lot of tools here. Nonetheless, you are able to quickly get going by using your finger or stylus to create your own font loosely based on the more traditional versions like Times New Roman.

You can then fine-tune your design by height, weight, letter spacing, and other things.

When not tweaking these glyphs you can also view how your font would look in a phrase, while there are a number of tools at the bottom for editing and changing between pen styles.

When you’re happy with your work, you can attach them all as a glyph poster or convert it into a TTF file to make it compatible with programs like Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite. iFontMaker is also available for Windows 8 and Windows RT devices.

Share artistic collages with Moldiv

Moldiv is a simple, fun and slick photo collage app for all creative types, even if you're just an amateur enthusiast.

On entering the app (free, iTunes), you’re presented with a starter video and then a selection of templates to choose from for your design.

There are options for importing pictures from the Camera Roll, other albums or to take new pictures on the iPad’s camera, and having done this you can add image effects, switch positions of the images and play around with borders, stamps and text input.

Should you choose to, you can save your work of art to the camera roll or send to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr or other apps.
