Ford dealers are using Apple’s iPad to sell more cars

The new 'Showcase' app allows sales consultants to get “anytime, anywhere” access to product information, and tailor customer orders by make, color, features and price.

These results can be saved or emailed out to potential customers, while sales staff can also use the embedded video clips to showcase certain features or technologies on each vehicle.

"Waiting for the sales consultant to check the inventory or wandering the aisles of a car lot in search of just the right combination of colors and options can be a tedious and time-consuming process," said Michelle Moody, cross vehicle marketing manager for Ford.

"If the weather is bad or the sun has gone down early in the winter months, venturing outside is even less appealing.”

The Showcase app was first trialled by 14 Ford dealers in November of last year, but is now being used by as many as 200 Ford dealers in the U.S.

A recent study from J.D. Power revealed that an increasing number of tablet owners are shopping for cars on their slates. Meanwhile, some cars manufacturers have even take to giving away free tablets to sweeten the deal when customers buy new cars.
