Gameloft’s 13 top-selling iPad games are led by the licensed minions

December 18, 2013

We already learned this week that free-to-play games rule, when research revealed that the top-grossing apps on Android and iOS are mostly free-to-play games. As if we didn't know that already! But this list of Gameloft's most-downloaded iPad apps confirms it.

Of the top 13, only one game isn't free-to-play: Asphalt 7: Heat. Hell, Asphalt 7 is the only game in Gameloft's top 30 that costs a cent. And the company ditched the freemium model for the next game in the Asphalt series, Asphalt 8: Airborne.

And it's not exactly surprising that a licensed game based on Despicable Me is at the top of the list, especially when its gameplay mimics the ever-popular Temple Run. In fact, eight of these 13 are based on non-original properties, from the console game series Brothers in Arms to the not-just-for-little-girls-anymore My Little Pony.
