4 best iPad recipe apps to get ready for Thanksgiving

November 24, 2013

These choices make it easy to impress relatives with your culinary skills; they just don’t need to know they were acquired two days before Thanksgiving. Perhaps they will even want to come back to your house again (of course this may not be a good thing).

How to Cook Everything

For an all-around choice that will have utility beyond Thanksgiving, How to Cook Everything is a great app to have. It has highly detailed recipes with illustrations that will be useful for those at all levels of culinary skill. It is one of the original cooking apps to hit the App Store back at its launch, and has progressively grown into a benchmark choice.

It is more than just a digital version of a cookbook. Users can create and print out shopping lists, email recipes, and keep the app live without needing to continually touch the screen by pressing a button.

Whole Foods Market Recipes

If you like the variety of fresh, local foods available at Whole Foods stores then the app could be an ideal companion. There are plenty of ways to enhance your shopping experience by perusing the store's products or getting ideas for recipes before heading to the nearest local store.

It makes an ideal companion also for Thanksgiving, given the variety of cooking ideas that Whole Foods puts into holiday meals. While some may be a litle on the complex side, they can certainly provide some inspiration.

Thanksgiving: a Bon Appetit manual

The team behind the perennial cooking magazine put together 101 recipes crafted from the magazine’s test kitchen. Some of them are not for beginners, as Bon Appetit appeals to those who have a taste for the more elaborate or higher-end dishes. Yet it has very good details and how-to sections for those looking to step up their culinary game.

Bring Food Network to your kitchen

If Giada de Laurentiis and Bobby Flay are where you get your inspiration, then the Food Network in the Kitchen app is a great choice to download. It recently got an iOS 7-themed update that is very appealing.

While a few users have noted in the App Store reviews issues with the update, I did not experience any when testing it out. When scanning through for recipes they can be saved inside of the app’s recipe box. Use this resource to create shopping lists for creating an ideal meal.
