The scan feature uses the same optical character recognition (OCR) technology already used in Google Drive and works when users select “Scan” from the “Add New” menu.
Having then taken a photo of their document, receipt or business card, Drive then automatically turns the image into a searchable PDF.
That’s not the only change for the Android app (free, Google Play), which also now sports a new interface that looks similar to the Cards view on Google+ and the Google Play store. As a result, there is more space between items, a grid-like view of files and the option to view a “large icon” preview of uploaded documents.
Furthermore, there is an option for saving these files locally to your Android smartphone or tablet. Alternatively, you can make the cloud-based files available to edit while offline.
