Google Drive to launch next week?

The Next Web claims to have received this knowledge from a Google Drive partner in the form of a draft press release, and expects the service, bearing the drive.google.com domain (although a search right now will result in a 404 error page), to launch in the middle of next week. TechCrunch goes further, and even claims to have spent some time with an OS X version app.

This isn’t the first time information has emerged on the incoming Google Drive, and a leaked screenshot from last month suggests that file storing and sharing can be monitored from within the same homepage. Prior to that particular rumor, The Wall Street Journal reported that Google's widely-reported storage solution would be called 'Drive'.

Google’s move will make for an increasingly competitive and crowded cloud storage space, led by the likes of Dropbox, Box, and SugarSync and pursued by enterprise-friendly vendors like Accellion, Egnyte, GroupLogic, YouSendIt and –launching just last week – TeamDrive.
