The commercial highlights how users can set-up multiple user accounts on the 10-inch Nexus 10, a feature which was introduced to Android 4.2 (still code-named Jelly Bean) when the operating system launched in November of last year.
The ad shows a man and his wife preparing for the birth of their first child, with both using the device to watch movies, chat with friends using Google+ and search for relevant content with Google Now. The video concludes with the rather unlikely scenario of the parents setting up a third user account on the Nexus 10 for their new-born child.
Google will no doubt be hoping that this unique feature (multi-user accounts is only available for Android 4.2 tablets, and Nexus 10 is the only one on the market at present) could be enough to tempt buyers away from Apple’s iPad which, despite having become a device used by various members of the family, has no such mode for setting up individual profiles.
The Nexus 10 was co-developed by Google and Samsung and launched in November 2012 with a starting price of $399 ($499 for the 32GB model).
And yet despite promising a high-resolution screen and the latest Android operating system, the WiFi model has struggled to gain serious traction since, although the 32GB model has at times been out of stock. The 10-inch model is only available through the Google Play online store.
