Distimo found that Google Play revenue increased by 67% over the last six months, with the App Store’s growing by 15% over the same period.
Breaking buying habits down by country, the report detailed that the U.S. spends the most money on apps, followed by Japan and the South Korea. But in an interesting aside, researchers found that Russians were spending more money on apps for iPad than for iPhone.
This report comes less than two weeks after App Annie detailed its own findings into the competition between Google Play and the App Store.
The app analytics company found that Google Play app downloads topped App Store downloads for the first time in the second quarter, a finding it would put in down to higher activity in emerging markets like Russia, India, Brazil and China.
That said, App Annie concluded that the iOS App Store brings in 2.3 times the revenue of Google Play.
