Quick Tip: Add multiple users on Windows 8 tablets

Looking to share a Windows 8 tablet in your small business or within a small department or enterprise team? No problem, here’s what you need to do.

Much like Google-powered tablets running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, Windows 8 supports multiple user log-ins, and that’s a great thing if you’re looking to mobilize your team with a small number of tablets.

How can you share your Windows 8 tablet? It’s all quite easy really – you simply need to add a Microsoft account, a process which will allow users to sign-in with their Hotmail IDs.

[Note: If you don't have a Microsoft account, you can either sign up for a new account or sign in with a 'local' account. The latter does not allow you to download apps from the Windows Store and will not synchronize your home screen across your other Windows 8 devices.]

To get started head to Settings and then to Change PC Settings on your Windows 8 tablet (this is the same process for Windows 8 desktops), after which you should enter Users.

This landing page will detail your account and sign-in options – there are tools here for creating a picture password, a new PIN, changing a password and adding password timeouts– but you should instead tap on Add a User at the bottom of the page.

You’ll be asked to enter and confirm your Microsoft account details. There’s an added bonus for parents here, because you can also turn on Family Safety mode to get reports on PC usage if the new user happens to be a child.

Following that, you should be able to hit the top right user icon to log-in with your Microsoft credentials.
