DisplaySearch revealed the news at its annual conference in Taipei, Taiwan over the weekend and said that the 10.1-inch display will have a FullHD resolution of 1920 x 1080, giving it a more than reasonable 218 pixels per inch.

The research group added that the new tablet might be made by Taiwanese contract laptop maker Pegatron, which also makes Apple’s iPad and Microsoft’s Surface tablets, and hinted that mass production may have started on the model in Q1.

Such news would certainly represent a significant shift not only with HTC’s plans with tablets, but also regarding the Taiwanese firm’s relationship with Microsoft.

HTC confirmed in October that it had no immediate plans to re-enter the tablet market, news which came just months after the company was banned from making Windows 8 tablets.

More recently however and reports have abound that HTC intends to launch 7-inch and 12-inch Windows RT tablets with ARM-based Qualcomm chips in Q3.
