The world’s largest chipmaker is apparently developing “depth-sensing” cameras that will be used in new ultrabooks, laptops, tablets and smartphones from the second half of 2014.

Anil Nanduri, the director of perceptual products and solutions at Intel, revealed the news in an interview with IDG News and said that the cameras, will be first launch of external webcams before coming to laptops, will add interactivity to 3D games and make web conferencing more fun and detailed.

“You'll add the ability to sense your excitement, emotion — whether you are happy or smiling. The algorithms and technologies are there, but they are getting more refined, and as they get more robust, you'll see them," said Nanduri.
