Though ultrabooks are still a minor share of total Windows PC sales, there has been a jump in growth of touch laptops, according to Stephen Baker, VP of industry analysis at the NPD Group.

"Touch has been doing much better in August than in any other month," Baker told CNet via email.

For August, touch had about a 30% share of all Windows 8 notebooks at retail, he said. That's a significant uptick from the first three months of the year when touch-enabled laptops were only about 10% of Windows 8 notebooks at retail, according to NPD.
