This iPad workstation may convince you to ditch your laptop (video)

August 23, 2013

The creators of the Modus III prototype keyboard are hoping to raise $95,000 in Kickstarter in the next 31 days and that figure was under $4,000 on Friday.

Aiming to turn your tablet into an “iPad Office”, the keyboard case is essentially a workstation which houses its own full-sized Bluetooth keyboard, a dock for your smartphone and a clip-in dock for your iPad which can be brought forward or pushed back for various viewing positions. There's even space for you to store paper documents.

The one downside is that, at 1.2” x 11.5” x 15.75”, the Modus III is anything but small and relatively heavy at 2.4lbs.

The Modus III works on the iPad 2, 3 and 4 but backers can choose an iPad 5 module at no extra cost, even though the tablet is yet to launch. The accessory makers say that they plan to add support for Android and Windows tablets in future.

The Modus III is up for sale at $169 for early Kickstarter backers, with this price increasing for better materials and design customization. The product's Kickstarter page can be found here.
