Apple’s high-end iPhone 7 Plus smartphone has received a lot of praise since it was first released in late September, for both its rear camera and its dual lens design. However, a number of recent online reports claim that the camera spontaneously stops working and there’s no word yet as to why.
The reports started surfacing this week thanks to a thread on Reddit. One user wrote of his experience, and his report seems to be similar to others who have had the same thing happen with their iPhone 7 Plus:
I opened up the camera app only to be met with a black image preview, sometimes I can get an image, however, it’s either tinted green or purple and was once accompanied by a screen stating ‘Emergency iPhone needs to cool down’ when the handset wasn’t even slightly warm.
The reports claim that Apple has chosen to exchange the faulty phones for new models when this camera issue came up, and so far all the company has told these customers is that the problem is due to a unnamed “hardware fault”.
There’s no word on what specifically has cause this issue, nor how many iPhone 7 Plus units are affected. However, it would appear that Apple is at least getting these unfortunate owners a quick replacement for their defective device.
