While curved screens are not too functional yet, the “feature” is one of the coolest advancements in technology. Samsung’s curved screen devices have received plenty of love and previous rumors suggested Apple was to follow this trend with one of the new devices coming this year. Now those rumors are being refuted by yet another murmur.
TrendForce sources corroborate that the next top-of-the-line smartphone will indeed come with a 5.8-inch AMOLED screen. This is great news, but they also mention plans to introduce a curved screen have been scrapped; mostly due to “issues with the 3D glass in terms of production yield and drop test results.” For these reasons, it is said Apple is falling back on the 2.5D glass the company currently uses.
This rumor also mentions said high-end iPhone will bring facial recognition and AR features to the table, further confirming previous rumors.
Plenty of changes seem to be coming. We have also heard Apple might be removing the home button and replacing it with a “function area”. But many of these features appear to be only coming to the high-end version of the 2017 iPhones, which could come priced above the $1000 USD milestone.
