Job listings suggest Microsoft is still working on Office for iPad

July 24, 2012

Microsoft recently posted two job posts, one for a software engineer to work on the Outlook test team, and another to work on the PowerPoint test team.

And while this is far from solid proof that an Office iPad app is on its way, PowerPoint is part of the Office suite while both ads detail that the engineers will be working on “new feature work to be part of Microsoft’s next move on the Mac and on iOS”.

Rumors on an Office iPad app have abound for some time now, and The Daily recently reported that the app will launch on November 10. Another report claimed that Microsoft has already developed the app, although this latest news would suggest that Microsoft may still be working on it.

Microsoft’s Office would certainly be a welcome addition to the iPad, but would still face stiff competition in the productivity space from the likes of Apple (with Pages, Keynote and Numbers) as well as Google’s recently acquired Quickoffice.
