LA school district runs into new problems with huge iPad deployment

The LA Times reports that the district had expected the iPads to cost $678 per device, only for a revised budget to put that cost as high as $770.

District officials admit that they did not include taxes and a mandatory recycling fee in the original estimate, while Apple apparently only gives a volume discount if a group buys more than 520,000 devices.

This isn’t the first piece of bad news for the school district in its plan to equip every student with an iPad. Just last month, it was forced to delay the roll-out after students bypassed the device’s security restrictions.
