Capossela, the senior VP of consumer channels at Microsoft, hailed the recent unveiling of its Windows Store as a ‘major disclosure moment’ for the company, and said that the beta preview of Windows 8 has already been downloaded three million times since the company’s Build conference earlier this year.
“We think about Windows 8, and how it will re-imagine Windows, and the development opportunity around it,” said Capossela.
“Think about the massive install base. About 500 million Windows 7 PCs have shipped, all of which will be able to run Windows 8. Even if you ignore this, you've got 400 million PCs sold into the market every year. That’s a massive run of PCs to build apps for.”
Capossela went on to add that Microsoft will not force developers into using a certain advertising network or payment stores, and said that it welcomes developers to offer their own subscription services.
“We’re offering developer freedom and these are some of the reasons developers should be getting excited.”
