Microsoft looks set to upgrade SkyDrive cloud storage for Windows 8

February 21, 2012

The new Windows 8 Metro app will be integrated with the ‘Search Charm’ feature (a new, slightly more direct way of searching for apps and programs) built into the OS, with Microsoft itself proclaiming the application to be a “fast, fluid touch-first version of SkyDrive that makes it quick and easy to browse your files and access them in any Metro style app”.

The desktop sync functionality will support files up to 2GB (although rumors are circulating about the option of buying into a paid-for version with more capacity), and will run across Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines.

Microsoft says that SkyDrive will also boast offline access, drag-and-drop upload tools, and the ability to use Windows Explorer to manage files and folders. Another new feature, calling ‘Fetching’, will also be available soon and will allow the same users to browse and snag files from their computer, over an internet connection.
