There was a rumor going around that existing Xbox One controllers might never work with Windows, with Microsoft possibly instead releasing a new Windows-specific version.

But like the Xbox 360 controller before it, every Xbox One controller will eventually be compatible with Windows devices, Microsoft Director of Product Management Albert Penello wrote on the gaming forum neoGAF.

"There is no plan to do a new, separate controller that only works on Windows," Penello wrote. "It will be the same as it is on Xbox 360—the Xbox One controller you have today will work. That's not to say that we may not ship also PC SKU of the Xbox One controller, much like we do on Xbox 360." Naturally the wired version of the Xbox One controller will be easier to plug-in-and-play, but they're working on making the wireless version compatible as well, Penello further confirmed.

He confirmed that the official Xbox One controller drivers for Windows will arrive this year. (via Neowin)
