Earlier ads sported a faux Siri voice that sounded increasingly concerned that it didn’t have some of the same features as the iPad.
This ad simply has a upbeat sound track while the iPad and Surface RT are compared side by side in pictures and text.
Microsoft of course cherry picks the advantages (just as Apple did in the old "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" ads); there is no, for example, mention of the vastly larger selection of apps available for the iPad, but does note that the Surface RT comes with Microsoft Office which is not available for Apple’s tablet.
Basically, Microsoft touts the same advantages it has in earlier ads, just in a different way. Once again it touts that the Surface RT includes a kickstand and keyboard while the iPad does not. In small print the ad notes that the keyboard is actually a separate purchase.
The ad wraps up ticking off the other advantages of the Surface RT – multitasking and a full size USB port and, the coup de grace, a big price difference, $499 for the 16GB iPad versus $349 for the 32GB Surface RT.
Microsoft was basically forced to discount the Surface RT after taking a $900 million for unsold inventory last quarter. But hey, that doesn’t mean it's not a good deal, especially for businesses and individuals that need to run Office on their tablet.
