Microsoft Office will launch on iPad and Android in November, say sources

Citing a “reliable source”, BGR says that both iOS and Android users will be able to download the “full Office suite” when the apps launch, which probably means the inclusion of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Other Microsoft services like SkyDrive and OneNote are already available on the iPad, while OneNote is also available for Android smartphones and tablets.

This is by no means the first rumor on when Microsoft Office will come to Apple’s iPad, and reports on a possible launch go as far back as last November. More recently, Rupert Murdoch’s The Daily claimed to have seen the app first-hand, and said that the app was just “weeks” from release. That report was from February, and Microsoft has since gone onto dispute the accuracy of the story.

One suspects that Microsoft is trying to configure a time-scale for the launch, what with the first Windows 8 tablets expected to come to market around the same time. It could be that Microsoft decides to launch Windows 8 first, before outing Office for iOS and Android, thereby reducing the chance of either platform having a negative impact on Windows 8 tablet sales.
