Confirming the news on its Office Web Apps blog, Microsoft revealed that the new preview edition of Office Web Apps will enable iPad (using the Safari browser) and Windows 8 tablet users (using Internet Explorer) to pinch to zoom, easily select sections of text and precisely input text at any chosen insertion point.

Touch buttons have also been increased in size, while users will be able to swipe and scroll to navigate between and within their documents. Furthermore, Windows 8 users will be able to choose between two editing modes; Touch Mode and more traditional control methods.

Office Web Apps enables SkyDrive, Hotmail, Docs.com and Facebook Messages users to create and edit documents on the go, using web-based versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.

Many iPad users may end up turning to the web-based portal considering Office 2013 (codenamed Office 15) does not support Apple's iPad. And, as we know, there is not yet an Office iPad app, although there have been reports that Microsoft has already developed the application.
