Mysterious BlackBerry tablet could launch in Q3 (April Fool’s hoax)

April 1, 2013

The purported roadmap, which appeared on Twitter account @BB10Leaks, shows a tablet device by the name of ‘B10L’ and claims that the model will launch in Q3, presumably just in time for the holiday season.

UPDATE: The Canadien Press agency reports BlackBerry's supposed tablet roadmap was a hoax started by an anonymous users on Twitter who has since confessed it was made up.

The roadmap also hints at another new QWERTY phone, a possible phablet and points to Q1 release dates for BlackBerry’s Z10 and Q10 smartphones, both which launched at the start of the year.

It is worth noting that @BB10Leaks didn’t reveal where it received this information, and that TabTimes doesn’t know if the source can be trusted when it comes to reporting rumors like these.

Nonetheless, the roadmap does at least look accurate when compared against the last supposed BlackBerry roadmap, which leaked in July of last year.

At the time, the roadmap claimed that a 4G Playbook would be coming in December prior to the launch of BlackBerry 10 in January, both which later turned out to be true.

The roadmap also detailed that a BB10 upgrade for Playbook would come around at some point in Q1 and hinted at a larger tablet launching in Q3 of 2013. The tablet, which is apparently codenamed ‘Blackforest’, is thought to be 10-inch in size and come with 128GB of storage.

If this information hints at work going behind the scenes at BlackBerry, Thorsten Heins certainly isn’t giving anything away in the public eye. The company CEO has repeatedly stressed that that his firm will only build another tablet if his teams prove to him that it can be profitable.
