The underseas work is being done as part of the NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations project, or NEEMO.

NASA has developed "right-now" procedures for teaching crew members in the underseas mission how to do some basic maintenance jobs on the craft. The hope is that the combination of iPad and PowerPoint can be used to easily communicate procedures in a visual presentation, with pictures and colorful circles and other explanatory marks.

While Microsoft's PowerPoint isn't available as a native app on the iPad, NASA is using the SlideShark iPad app designed to let users display and use PowerPoint files easily on Apple's device, including the use of embedded videos and audio.

SlideShark recently received two Tabby Awards in TabTimes' best tablet apps competition for best Presentation and Productivity app.
