Tablet app offers small business insights about the economy

March 26, 2012

Prosper Technologies says its tablet app offers a monthly look at the attitudes small business owners have towards the economy, how their personal financial situation and spending plans are affected by key events and other topic areas. Prosper says the service covers 15 different segments of the small business market.

The InsightCenter includes survey data like how many hours small business owners are working per week, how they feel about the economy, their primary function and their primary source of income. Prosper says its service goes beyond traditional point-in-time data reports to trended insights in one easy-to-use, decision-ready format.

Survey info comes from different sources including the U.S. Census Bureau Survey of Business Owners (SBO) and Prosper’s own BIGinsight surveys.

The company notes that small business represents represents an important part of the U.S. economy. According to the government’s Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy, small businesses employ about half of all private sector employees, pay 43% of total U.S. private payroll, have generated 65% of net new jobs over the past 17 years and produce 16.5 times more patents per employee than large patenting firms.

Prosper offers a basic level of access to the service for free with registration. For iPad users, the Web app can be installed at the company's website while Android users can find it as the Small Business Tablet app at Google Play (formerly Android Market).
