BERLIN, GERMANY – Announced 24 hours before the start of the IFA technology convention in Germany, the Toshiba Encore boasts an 8-inch 1280 x 800 resolution display, Intel’s latest 1.8GHz Bay Trail Atom processor and will run Windows 8.1 – which itself launches on October 18 – when it comes to market in November.
There are other benefits for business users too with Office Home & Student 2013 pre-loaded on the device, which is also said to offer a “fully-optimized” Skype experience. Furthermore, there are connections for micro USB, micro HDMI, while the 32GB of internal storage can be expanded using the micro SD card slot.
Toshiba adds that the Encore has a textured rear to make it easier to hold and says that it weighs 16.9 ounces and is .42 inches thick, which makes it slighter bigger than the iPad mini (10.8 ounces, .28 inches thick).
However, in an effort to show that the Encore isn’t just for business folk seeking a pocket-able device, Toshiba has also packed the tablet with apps for Amazon’s Kindle and Xbox Smart Glass (the second screen app for Xbox One and 360).
