Like the other versions of the game, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft on iPad requires an internet connection.
In a footnote of a recent press release Blizzard says that's so its "gnomes can keep your card collection up to date across platforms."
Hearthstone was in beta for months and recently released in full on desktops, but tablet gamers have eagerly awaited the iPad release. The card-battling game may have some of the addictive characteristics of Blizzard's other games, like World of Warcraft and Diablo 3.
"Hearthstone's player base has already grown to more than 10 million registered accounts following the official Windows and Mac release, but we saw that a few people online were holding out for the iPad version," Blizzard CEO and co-founder
Insert footnote about "anywhere else" meaning "anywhere with an internet connection." In any case Hearthstone is out now on iPad in Canada, Australia and New Zealand and will roll out "soon" worldwide. iPhone, Android and Windows tablet games are incoming as well, Blizzard confirmed.
