Microsoft to give away 10,000 Surface tablets to educators

Microsoft is making a serious move to try and get more educators on the Windows tablet bandwagon.

As part of its Windows in the Classroom Surface Experience Project, Microsoft will be giving away Surface RTs to the first 10,000 registrants for the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) conference in San Antonio this month.

Cynics will point to slower than expected sales of the Surface RT tablets as the possible reason behind Microsoft's decision to move unsold inventory.

But whatever the case, it is not uncommon for big tech companies to offer big discounts and even give away products to educators and key accounts as a way to influence future sales.
