Apple's next free iOS 7 update for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users is expected to fix bugs and enhance a variety of user interface elements, as well as include new Mobile Device Management features.
Apple is reportedly working with a select few MDM vendors and institutional clients to improve iOS managed deployment as part of the iOS 7.1 release tentatively scheduled for "around March 15," according to an unnamed source cited by AppleInsider.
A key feature for the new MDM system will be over-the-air supervision of deployed iOS devices designed to let institutions easily monitor and protect large iOS device deployments, the source said. For example, a school administrator would be able to set and lock device profiles, data and other information without risking deletion by the student.
(Deployment issues and mobile management will be among the key topics discussed at the Tablet Strategy conference in New York on May 6, 2014).
