Apple has revealed its official picks for the best App Store games of 2013.

Top of the list for iPad games is Badland, an atmospheric platformer from developer Frogmind.

"With haunting visuals and great controls, Frogmind's side-scroller is an absolute joy," reads the App Store editors' official synopsis. "Alone or with friends, you'll love overcoming each brilliantly designed challenge."

Badland was previously voted the top action game in TabTimes' 2013 Tabby Awards. (By the way, if you want to review the best tablet games, consider joining the Tabby Awards judging panel next year!)

Runners-up on iPad are the strategy game XCOM: Enemy Unknown and minimalistic steering game Impossible Road.

On the iPhone side Zach Gage's excellent Ridiculous Fishing won top honors for 2013, with Device 6 and Plants vs. Zombies 2 earning honorable mentions.

Good choices all around for sure. What are your favorite tablet games of 2013?
