iPad users can now go for the gold, but it’s not cheap

The quest for Olympic gold medals are in the news, but now comes a company that can let you add a gold frame to your iPad.

The new MiFrame stand from Striped Sail is a 24 karat gold and platinum “limited edition” iPad charging stand that at $849 will set you back more than the cost of the iPad itself.

At least there are some extra goodies in addition to the luxurious look. The miFrame can charge the iPad with its built-in dock connector and rotate easily for either portrait or landscape viewing. It also includes an extended 5 foot USB cable, but what you're really paying for are the precious metals.

The MiFrame’s frame is 24k gold-plated with platinum-plated "glittering bevels" and a platinum-plated base. The MiFrame can also be custom laser engraved for an additional $100.

“There is an exclusive class of iPad consumers that are drawn to the allure of precious metals,” said Chandler Maxvel, Striped Sail’s VP of Customer Experience, in a release. “Those individuals now have the opportunity to dock their iPad into something that looks truly spectacular and stands apart in a class of its own.”

This isn’t the company’s first luxury iPad frame. Striped Sail recently introduced a Rose Gold-plated frame made from real Rose Gold, a hand-rubbed Antique Copper-plated frame “that makes a great accent piece in a kitchen or library,” and most recently two ceramic glass frames themed for golfers and chefs.

MiFrame prices start at $139 and are available for all three version of the iPad.
