Startup designs Kinect-like camera for the iPad (video)

by TabTimes Staff

September 17 2013

Startup Occipital is previewing its Structure Sensor, a 3-D camera that brings Kinect-style depth sensing abilities to the iPad and other mobile devices. The device could be used to scan objects and for augmented reality applications, among other uses.

The Structure Sensor actually won't be available until the middle of next year, but the company is launching the product first for developers who order it via Kickstarter.

“We really wanted to get feedback from the world,” Occipital CEO Jeff Powers told AllThingsD. “We wanted to also be the first to do this."
