In an earlier era, Boeing might have offered a history of the company's aviation advances in a limited edition, coffee table book costing $50 or more.

But the advent of tablets makes this kind of content cheaper and easier. Today, the aviation giant announced the release of Milestones in Innovation, a free app for the iPad that covers nine decades of the company's innovations.

"This is the history of Boeing as a digital coffee table book," said Fritz Johnston, Boeing's VP of brand and advertising. "iPad's amazing Retina display makes it the perfect canvas to present this visually stunning narrative."

The app traces the founding of the company by Bill Boeing back in 1916 and culminates with first delivery of the 787 Dreamliner. Four videos from Boeing's "Inspiration to Innovation" series are also included with the app. The company has also recently started distributing stories, photos, and videos through Flipboard available by searching "BoeingStories" in the magazine app.
